Darren’s old track car is a Mk 2 Escort RS 2000. It is running a 2100 cc Pinto engine with a hot cam and our own design of single 40 inlet manifold, which causes much head scratching at car shows.
A LOT OF PEOPLE ASSUME THIS MANIFOLD DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE ‘THEY’ DON’T UNDERSTAND IT, BUT IF YOU WANT TO TRY AND GO QUICKER WITH YOUR CAR, THEN MEET US AT CASTLE COMBE TRACK DAYS AND WE WILL SEE IF IT WORKS OR NOT...
The car also is 5 linked, turreted, adjustable coil-overs front and rear, lowered to the ground, compression struts, is fitted with a full WHITSPEED roll cage, Lexan windows, ally paneled, 5 speed box, ATB, slicks or road tyres, taxed and tested, very light and very fast.
We have recently fitted a new engine because the original finally gave up the will to continue when all the oil got out, due to the breather parting company with the block. On inspection, only the big end bearings were damaged, so the engine could have been rebuilt easily, and probably will, but we had a nice new motor to fit so in it went. The increase in power is already evident, and it is not run in yet. We will also upgrade to an Atlas axle and LSD. We could have put in a Cossy engine, turbo’d of course, but then it would be expected to be quick. We like to be quick with just a Pinto.
The Chassied Cossy Mk 1 will replace this as Darren’s track car as soon as it is finished.
