Chassis taking shape.  Note the low slung appearance because customer does not want a cage visible inside car.  Rear loop forms part of rear parcel shelf and front loop is under front scuttle.  Rear suspension swing arms are carrying wheels but no shocks yet.  Engine and gearbox are mounted.  Note jack under engine to stop chassis flex at this early stage.  Note also ‘ride height pegs’ tacked to chassis corners, on 1” spacers to ease manoeuvrability.

 

Substantial gearbox tunnel construction to form the basis of the backbone chassis, gives super torsional rigidity to the entire structure without becoming ridiculously large.  No cage also means no door bars and the shell will not be a full structural member as it was in the original monocoque shell, although it will be welded to the chassis once we are happy the body doesn’t need to come off again.

Steel panels going in to form the tunnel, bulkhead and floor.  The recesses formed by the tunnel and bulkhead tubes will be filled with sound deadening felt and then the carpet will give a smooth finish to the interior.  We need to plan well ahead when building a car from nothing.  The car starts to take on a recognisable form when the panels go in.  Looks simple enough really.  If it was, anyone could do it.
