Mk 2 RS 2000 full chassis road car.

Featured Cover Car Classic Ford August 2005

Take one average Mk 2 RS2000 shell and cut out all the rust - Oh dear!  Fabricate a simple but effective tubular chassis to take Cosworth Engine, T5 gearbox, full width Atlas axle with LSD and fat Compomotive 8” x 15” MLs.  You will note that we use square section tube under the floor and round above the floor.  This is mainly due to convenience and looks.  Square is easier to attach floor panels to and round is necessary for the cage.

Starting to come together now.  Note one piece front end as requested, then opening steel bonnet for total convenience and ease of maintenance. This gives car an almost ‘stock’ appearance.  This was the first mock-up of the car using clients old 13” x 7” wheels

Once painted in Ford Signal Green the visual effect of the build starts to stand out.  The vivid colour highlights the detail in the fabricated panels.  Every part of every floor panel, bulkhead panel and the lower inner wings were fabricated by hand.
