I, Wayne, am building a very special Mk 1 Escort for sprints and hill climbs. This project has been planned for many years and as I am fortunate enough to be able to build Drag Racing and Circuit Racing cars for a living, (www.robinson-race-cars.co.uk) it is no surprise that I want to, and now can, build the ultimate Escort for myself, with the much appreciated guidance of Andy Robinson.
I have already made a fibreglass body shell of a Mk 1 Escort, with some assistance from my dad and I am now in the process of building a Chrome Moly space frame chassis to take all the running gear. This really is a ‘silhouette’ car where just the outline is Escort, although some of the original parts remain, (the windscreen scuttle, which I’ve had chromed, and the dog-bone front grill, that's pretty much it) The running gear is loosely based around Ford components, but this is where the similarities end.

This shows the fibreglass mould being made from the steel escort shell. Many hours of hard work and great expense went into the ‘plug’ which then got scrapped. Thanks Dad for your help at this juncture.

The finished mould

That’s a pretty big jigsaw puzzle!
